Surreal December

Objective

For this illustration, the goal was to create an illustration for the month of December using surrealist themes. Developed a concept that captures the fragility and distortion of holiday cheer with the themes of loss and decay.

Initial Sketch

Through Procreate, I assembled different Christmas elements such as ornaments, elves, candy canes, gingerbread man, presents in an iced, cold environment. As for surreal elements, I created this obscure environment where the elf is born from an egg-shaped ornament, melting candy canes, ice cubed gifts and a giant gingerbread man in the background eating these egg ornaments.

Final Render

In Procreate, I fully rendered the initial sketch using vibrant colors to contrast the odd, almost fearsome environment. This piece challenges holiday imagery and reinforces the calanders surrealistic theme.
